Kim Zimmer to OLTL!
Soap Opera Digest ran report exclusively that former GUIDING LIGHT star Kim Zimmer (ex-Reva) will return to daytime this fall to reprise the role of Echo DiSavoy on ONE LIFE TO LIVE, which she last played in October 1983. "I'm so excited," Zimmer raves. "I feel like it's all come full circle." Echo was actually her second role on the show; she started out as Bonnie Harmer in 1978, then went on to play Nola on THE DOCTORS, and returned to OLTL to create troublemaker Echo in 1983. "And then they fired me!" she laughs. "She was asked to leave town, and it was the best thing that could have happened to everyone involved. I went to GUIDING LIGHT and had a wonderful 27 years there and now I'm happy to be back at ONE LIFE. And so I'm very grateful to [Executive Producer] Frank [Valentini] for making the phone call."

Echo will first resurface on October 1, and will be in big story with Clint (Jerry verDorn), Viki (Erika Slezak) and Dorian (Robin Strasser), as well as others. Check out an exclusive interview with the actress on her return in the September 7 issue of Digest!

by Michael Logan  April 26, 2010 02:34 PM EST

One Life to Live fans have been fretting about the future of their soap, and they got a little more crazed last week when news broke that ABC Daytime might give Tori Spelling her own talk show. But ABC Daytime PR chief Jori Petersen assures TV Guide Magazine there’s nothing to worry about.

“We want OLTL to succeed and are doing everything we can to facilitate that,” says Petersen. “We want the show to be fantastic and robust. There are no plans for cancellation.”

ABC Daytime is indeed looking into the possibility of a Spelling chat show under its ABC Media Productions banner, but this division in known for developing reality programs not necessarily intended for the network. For example, it created Cha$e, which was sold to Syfy, as well as Making Over America With Trinny and Susannah, which ended up on TLC, and Southern Belles: Louisville and Holidate, both of which landed at SOAPnet. And this is the same ABC division that developed an Aisha Tyler talk show that sent OLTL lovers into an unnecessary panic last year.

Petersen is also addressing those long-running rumors that OLTL head writer Ron Carlivati will get the ax when his current contract ends—rumors that amped up recently when ABC hired As the World Turns’ current head writer Jean Passanante to join the OLTL team. “Jean was brought in to help Ron at Ron’s request,” clarifies the rep. “There are plans to take the show in a new and different direction, and we have absolute confidence that Ron will make that happen. The network in firmly behind him.”

*Back Again!

As reported and confirmed by ABC Soaps in Depth!

That revolving door keeps on spinning: A spokesperson for ONE LIFE TO LIVE confirms that Tuc Watkins will once again be returning to the soap as David — and this time, he'll be on contract! Watkins was last seen just a few weeks ago when David blackmailed Kim into leaving town shortly after her wedding to Clint. At this time, there is no first air date for the actor (or any word on how long his contract is for), but we're so glad that DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES is letting ABC daytime "borrow" him once more!

*Carmen LoPorto, Llanview's great little Jack Manning is a busy boy these days. In Mid-May he is going to be filming the movie Torture Chamber .  This is a movie written and directed by Dante Tomaselli, and it will be shot in different locations all over New Jersey and New York. Carmen will play the role of  Jimmy Morgan.  This is really something to look forward to.  The movie also has quite an impressive cast as Vincent Pastore of the Sopranos and Ed Neal of the Texas Chain Saw Massacre are two of the co-stars!  Keep checking here to find out the release date of this film, can hardly wait!*

*Big News from Soapnet.com!

Jean Passanante the current head writer of As The World Turns, will be joining the writing team of One Life to Live once ATWT ceases production this summer.

Jean will be an associate head writer with the OLTL writing team. Ron Carlivati remains head writer. For those unfamiliar with a soap opera writing team's structure, the head writer is supported by a group of associate head writers, whose numbers vary from three to five (depending on the show).

Jean has a history with One Life to Live: She was part of the writing team -- as an associate head writer -- from 1993 to 1996, and then again from 1997 to 1998 ... with a stint as co-head writer from 1996 to '97. Prior to joining As The World Turns, she served as head writer of All My Children and Another World.

*Tonight, we posted the audio from last week's segment live on Sirius Satellite Radio's, The Frank DeCaro Show, with my in-studio guest, One Life to Live's, Brett Claywell.  I received numerous requests to post the audio for those who could not hear the segment live.   In it, Brett and I discuss the decision to end Kish, and Brett shares his thoughts, and we take calls from some of Brett's wonderful and concerned fans.

*OLTL’S HILLARY B. SMITH (“NORA”) AUCTIONS MEMORABILIA FOR CHARITY!

The Willie-Coppee Fund is a joint charitable endeavor between Emmy award-winning OLTL actress Hillary B. Smith and her good friend, television writer and multiple-best-selling author Lindsay Harrison, and services clients of the CA-based Sherman Oaks Veterinary Group. The fund was established several years ago to honor the memory of their beloved dogs, Willie (Lindsay's Bichon Frise) and Coppee (Hillary's Golden Retriever), and serves to discreetly assist pet owners who may be struggling with overwhelming veterinary bills. Endowments that assist pet owners are incredibly important in today's challenged economy, as countless individuals are unable to provide routine care and medically necessary services for their furry friends.

Hillary recently gathered some choice memorabilia for the purpose of auctioning these items on eBay, with 100% of all proceeds from the sale of these items going to Sherman Oaks Vet Group for The Willie-Coppee Fund. The memorabilia includes everything from video to print to clothing, and that which spans her career from ATWT to OLTL to the webseries Venice. Bob Woods (“Bo,” OLTL) joined Hillary in personalizing some truly one-of-a-kind items as well. There is something for everyone and in every price range, and there is currently enough memorabilia to continue the auctions for several months. Each and every Sunday, a new item will list on eBay until inventory is exhausted, and bidding will continue for a full seven-day cycle.

Interested parties may visit the Willie-Coppee site at: http://williecoppeefund.blogspot.com/ to view the items, most recent bidding history, and place/update their bids directly. Please know that Hillary has pre-screened and authenticated each of the items for auction, and the winning bidder will receive verification from her that will accompany each item. Any questions about the auctions and/or The Willie-Coppee Fund may be directed to its Project Manager, Denise Balcarcel, at: williecoppeefund@comcast.net.

*Congratulations to Bree and her husband Michael.  The actress has confirmed they are anticipating the birth of their first child, which will come this fall.

*Congratulations to John-Paul Lavoisier on his new contract signing with OLTL, this will mark the ninth year that fan favorite Rex Balsom has been in Llanview!  In other contract news Tika Sumpter (Layla) has been put on recurring status. This from what we have found out has been the actresses decision. Tika is quite the busy woman these days with two movies coming out, Whisper me a Lullaby, and Stomp the Yard 2: Homecoming. Look forward to the release of both films. As soon as the dates are released for openings you will find out right here!*

Hi everyone:

Late last evening we posted the final two installments of my interview with One Life to Live's head writer, Ron Carlivati that I think all One Life to Live and All My Children fans may be interested in hearing, especially Part 3.And my final video interview with Scott Evans just shot a few days prior to the news of the end of Kish.  This details this coming week's reveal to Fish that he is Sierra Rose's biological dad, and more on this journey in the coming out story and on-air sex scene that aired on New Year's.

Ron Part 3

http://michaelfairmansoaps.com/one-life-to-live/ron-carlivati-one-life-to-live-3-2/2010/03/26/

Here, Ron discusses if Thorsten Kaye might return as Patrick Thornhart and how he would love the chance to tell that story,  the Natalie/John/Marty triangle, Langston’s affair with Ford, what’s next for Gigi and Rex, writing for Trevor St John and if Tea and Todd have a fighting chance, and Alison Perkins deadly return to Llanview

Ron Part 4

http://michaelfairmansoaps.com/one-life-to-live/ron-carlivati-one-life-to-live-4-2/2010/03/26/

In this segment, Ron details the issues and challenges being the lead scribe on a soap including: listening to, and reading message boards and fan feeback, writing for and balancing a cast of characters of over 30 people, and trying to stay afloat in a genre that has fallen on some very difficult times.

Deep Soap: ‘One Life To Live’s’ Brett Claywell Speaks Out About His Firing

by Sara Bibel at Fancast

Last week soap opera fans were shocked by the news that ‘One Life To Live’s groundbreaking gay couple Kyle (Brett Claywell) and Oliver (Scott Evans), better known as Kish, was being written off of the show.  Ironically the news broke days before their storyline won a GLAAD award.  Claywell sat down for a candid interview about why he was let go, how the rumors about his departure make him feel, and what his experience on OLTL meant to him.
When did you find out you were being written off the show?

I was stopping by One Life To Live [last week] to drop off my Emmy reel and I found out the same day.

That’s some strange timing.

Yeah.  That’s some irony right there.  The next day the story broke on-line.

Were you surprised?

A little bit but slowly the story had been dwindling.  I really only filmed four or five days since New Year’s Eve.  They were obviously pulling back from our story.  I was surprised because I really felt like we had really made an impact.  But, at the end of the day, I also wasn’t surprised because I could see the writing on the wall.

Were you given a reason for being written off?

I think the reason that has come out is pretty much the reason I was given: we didn’t test well with their mainstream audience.

Do you think Kish was blamed for the show’s ratings drop?

I’m not going to accuse anybody or speak on things that I really don’t have knowledge of.  I feel like we did tell a really good story.  I feel like we brought a lot of new viewers to the show.  We have a very loyal fanbase but evidently the network and One Life To Live didn’t feel like we were contributing as much as we maybe thought we did.

There was a column in TV Guide Canada that alleges that you two were written off for performance issues.  I wanted to give you the opportunity to respond to that.

Scott informed me of that yesterday.  It’s amazing to me that two people can put so much of their heart into a story that can be so passionate and serious and tell a story as honestly and as truthfully as we tried to and just open our hearts to the world and just try to make a difference, try and touch people and stories like this will come out that are absolutely, 100% false.  I’d love for anyone to watch one day of any of the work we’ve done and tell me that Scott and I were not 100% committed to what we were doing.  We were so dedicated to our work. It’s hurtful.  I’m really offended that someone would make completely false claims.  I’m angry.  It’s slander.

It struck me that if you were being unprofessional, you probably wouldn’t have gotten an Emmy pre-nomination.

One of the last days that Scott and I worked together, the argument scene that just aired two weeks ago when I had the DNA test, we had all these scenes that were from different episodes, 41 pages of dialogue that Scott and I filmed in maybe an hour and a half.  We work so methodically together and so well together.  We would film scenes in one take like everybody does.  You ask the directors we worked with.  The fact that you can spend a year and a half pouring your heart into a story and one person with one article can try to bruise that reputation you have, it’s disheartening and it’s offensive.

Have you taped your final episode?

Yes.  The day the story broke was my last day on set.

Do you think there is any chance the show will bring you back, since Kish are not going to be killed off or sent out of town?

I think they intentionally left it open.  Whether or not it’s going to happen, I can’t predict the future.  But Scott and I would both love to work together again.  We filmed our last day together and we didn’t even know it was our last day together.  I feel like there’s still some closure [needed] both for the story and us working together.

What has the response to Kish’s departure been from your fans?

The fans are what made me so proud of what Scott and I did together.  Everybody used to say that I have no idea the type of impact we’re making.  I never really have paid too much attention to it. I do my work and that’s what I’m putting out for the world and hopefully it’s received well but it’s not my business how it’s received.  Now I kind of get an idea and it makes me very proud and appreciative of all the support we’re getting.  It makes me proud of the work we’ve done because we’ve showed we made a difference in people’s lives.  All the people that come up and speak to us, all the people that tell us their story or how our story related to theirs.  It’s been a beautiful journey to do work that means so much to so many.

Are you going to stay in touch with your fans? Soap fans are so supportive, they’ll be there for the rest of your life no matter what you’re future projects are.

I realized this week that we don’t have a fanbase.  We have an army.  I think I need to start making uniforms for them.  I couldn’t be more appreciative.  Moving to New York and telling this story… being an actor you’re on an island sometimes.  You’re just standing on your own two feet dealing with all the pressure and the stress that come with certain things.  Playing this role was more difficult than anything I’ve ever done in my life and it was more rewarding than anything I’ve ever done in my life.  It’s probably the proudest accomplishment I’ve ever had in my life.  A lot of that is a testament to the fans because they give you strength.  They help you know in the times that you feel most alone that you really aren’t.  Knowing that your work is really important to somebody, that it means something to somebody… every moment that I might have had a weak moment where I was getting overwhelmed there was a word from somebody that doesn’t even know that I read it that affected me just enough to get me through.  You say fans, because you don’t know them, but they’re more like friendships.  The support they gave is like no other.

What was it like attending the GLAAD awards?

I honestly expected it to be a little crazier than it was.  Scott and I had a good time together.  It wasn’t as much of a maelstrom as I thought it would be.  At the end of the day Scott and I felt like we did good work and felt like we tried to tell the story as truthfully and honestly as any that’s on daytime television.  We tried to tell it no differently, as accurately and as honestly as any story that’s on television or film.  I think if you put the Kyle and Oliver story against any love story that’s been told, I feel like we’d stand up.  That night was just a night to celebrate that even if just for Scott and I.

How do you feel about headwriter Ron Carlivati and Executive Producer Frank Valentini?

I want to make sure that I put on the record that from my eyes and from my perspective I have no bitterness or no anger towards Frank and Ron.  Frank, he kept me around.  The character was created.  The character was revealed to be a gay man.  Through the whole process we had nothing but communication and support and belief and trust with Frank Valentini. People need to remember that this story never would have been told without either of them.  Without Ron’s writing but especially without Frank’s support.  I never would have played this role probably without Frank’s support.  At the end of the day it was sad to go.  It’s our family in a lot of ways and a little part of us feels like we’re being thrown under the bus by our family, maybe, but I am appreciative and indebted to Frank for being bold enough to tell this story and to tell it as truthfully as we did.  That truth may have shocked some people.  It may have created discussions in households and in places that never would have had the discussion.  To be bold enough to make that choice and to stand by it is why we did the work. I forever will be grateful to Frank and I think people should understand that… It might be a slower train than we want for equality to be on the streets or on the air but this still was progress.  The support that ABC gave us, the bravery that One Life To Live had as a show, the beauty in the words that Ron wrote, and the strength of the performances that Scott and I gave, this should be nothing but a celebration for a year that changed daytime television.

This was story that had the potential to bring in new viewers.  It seemed like ABC as a whole did not do much to publicize it, especially the groundbreaking love scene.

I think they knew for a while that maybe they were fading us out.  For the greater good of the show, you’re not going to push stories that don’t have a future.  I kind of feel like maybe that was the case.  I definitely believe that we could have made this bigger than it was but at the end of the day my job is to do the work and let other people do the job that they do.

Which scenes did you submit for your Emmy reel?

The hard thing about me submitting my Emmy reel, which I was very frustrated about, I feel like this year was a test.  I had to do so much with so little because there was no huge Kyle episodes.  A lot of my best work is split among a lot of different episodes.  I ended up submitting the episode the night before I get married, I think it was October 27th, which is partially attributed to suggestions from our fans.  I didn’t even remember that episode and then a lot of people were talking about it.  We’re only allowed to submit one episode.  That was the one I had to pick mainly because it had the most work in it.  It doesn’t show any of the journey, but it was a really good day of work.  I was really proud of the work Scott and I had done that day.

What are you going to do now?

I’m flying to Los Angeles next week to have some meetings.  I should be moving out very shortly.

You were originally cast as Schuyler, who is also being written off.   Looking back, are you glad you ended up playing Kyle?

I feel like I was given an opportunity to showcase my work in a way that Schuyler would not have allowed me to do.  Your whole career as an actor you’re just trying to get somebody to notice that you have talent.  You’re just trying to get somebody to notice how good you can be, your potential.  The whole three years I was on One Tree Hill I kept asking for a storyline, “Give me something to do.”  They never would.  I even had somebody tell me, “You’re going to be much better at comedy then drama.  You’re not a dramatic actor.”   To finally have someone write me a story that allowed me to show what I can do, I felt like Kyle gave me this opportunity to show what Brett Claywell can do as an actor.  The journey with Scott and the work that was done, I think absolutely at the end of the day playing Kyle was my destiny for this show.  It was definitely the role I was supposed to play.

*On the heels of the heartbreaking news that "KISH" were being written off of the Canvas of OLTL, came  the news that OLTL won for best daytime drama at the GLAAD Awards (Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) that were presented in NYC on 3/13/10. What Irony! Congratulations to all, well deserved!*

*In other news,
Austin Williams, who plays Shane Morasco, has been taken off contract. However, he will still be involved with the show through a recurring status.*

'One Life, Many Voices' Donates Pianos and More

Though it's been more than four years since members of ABC Daytime's "One Life to Live" cast first banded together, lifting their voices in song to create a compilation CD to benefit those affected by Hurricane Katrina, their voices are still being heard through the gift of music.  With a mission to "recover through the arts," the One Life, Many Voices Foundation has announced plans to donate three upright pianos to students in southern Mississippi, as well as a grand piano to a theater company in New Orleans.

Beginning the first week of March, upright Yamaha pianos will be delivered in Mississippi to West Marion Primary School in Foxworth, Bay High School in Bay St. Louis and the Boys and Girls Club in Pass Christian.  A very special grand piano, purchased in the memory of Phil Carey, who played OLTL's Asa Buchanan from 1979 to 2007, will also be given to the Le Petit Theatre in New Orleans.

Since the original "One Life, Many Voices" CD was made available, the non-profit group has funded more than 50 music scholarships for junior high and high school students to the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts (NOCCA), mailed out 1,000 baroque wooden recorders to elementary schools, and donated two additional upright pianos.

The group's CDs are no longer being distributed through regular sales channels, but they maintain "a commitment to help and support in any way we can," according to Robin Strasser (OLTL's Dorian Lord), producer and project coordinator.

"With an official letter establishing the not-for-profit status of a religious group, school, service organization or other 501(c)(3) organization, 'One Life, Many Voices' will be proud to supply CDs, free of charge, to use as fundraisers for local efforts," she added.

*Congratulations to the writing team of OLTL headed by Ron Carlivati (center) for their nomination in the 2010 Writers Guild Awards. The ceremony was held in NYC on February 20. Unfortunately the gold was awarded to the writing team of ATWT.  It was a thrill for the show to be nominated of course, but in my book they are the true winners as OLTL has had a beyond superb year!*

*Long-time One Life to Live star Robert S. Woods will remain planted in Llanview for the foreseeable future. *I wanted to let you know to set your DVR's because Sean has been doing a bit of prime time of late. A few weeks ago he taped an episode of 30 Rock which will air in about 3 weeks. As soon as we have an exact air date I will let you know. 30 Rock airs on NBC usually on Thursday evenings and stars Tina Fay, Alec Baldwin and Jane Krackowski;

Also around the same time (around the 17th of March) watch for Sean on ABC's Ugly Betty; he taped some comedic scenes with America Ferrera (yep Ugly Betty herself!) yesterday. We're both very excited about Sean's venture into Prime time television. Ugly Betty airs on Wednesday evenings on ABC 10 PM EST

We will be seeing Shaun and Destiny back on OLTL in the Snoop Dogg episodes which should be airing next week.

*OLTL will once again put on another musical extravaganza much like back in 2007 when they showcased "Prom Night the Musical" This time it is going to be the play that Langston writes, her musical based on the life of Starr and Cole".  While the character of Langston has talked about this, OLTL is taking it to the max and will make it a storyline for real.  While the show is not yet sure what this treat of a musical spectacular will be called, they do know that it will be scheduled to air in May!  Look forward to it!*

*Actress Taylor Gildersleeve will be joining OLTL as a character named Leah. This will be a recurring role and she is slated to begin airing in March.  Fans may recognize her from her stint on AMC in the part of Sydney*

*Erin Torpey (ex Jessica) and her husband Hamilton Von Watts are expecting their first baby this summer.   Congratulations to the proud parents to be!*

*Finally an end to the rumors about Roscoe Born being fired from OLTL. Not true. It's terrible how these things get started. From the beginning the character of Mitch Laurence was coming back temporarily, and that is the case. He is coming close to the end of his run, and will air through February sweeps which had been stated since day one. Loved having this evil man around, maybe things will again change!*

*Since the return of Gina Tognoni's Kelly Cramer is on the rise, speculation is OLTL may be casting for an actor to play the part of Zane, Kelly's son. Stay tuned! Meanwhile Gina is set to make her first appearance on February 12, and it promises to be a great return as she will be involved in one of the big major storylines going on currently...Don't touch that Dial!*

*Congratulations go out to Daphnee Duplaix for her NAACP Image Nomination for Outstanding Actress in a Daytime Drama Series.  You can send her your best wishes by dropping a card into the mail to her at the studio, or by sending her a message via Twitter at www.Twitter.com/DaphneeDuplaix or on Facebook at www.Facebook.com/DaphneeDuplaix.  I'm sure she would love to hear from you!

Winners will be announced on Friday, February 26, on Fox.  Check your local listings for the right time in your area.
